The Hamsa is a palm shaped amulet of the right hand. It has been appropriated throughout history as a sign of protection and defense against the evil eye. Hamesh, meaning ‘five’ in Hebrew is derived from the 5 fingers on the hand. For this handmade, sterling silver Hamsa, I cut floral and botanical motifs into the metal which imbues the design with a delightful organic feature. The Hamsa can be opened and therefore fulfills a utilitarian function to hold special prayers or photos. The hanging mechanism allows it to be hung on a wall or as a Pendant. The possibilities for this Object / Sculpture / Jewellery are endless.
